 | | Alan Keef 2009 Charity open day.
Loco builder and restorer Alan Keef Ltd held a charity open-day on 26th Sept 2009. Usually an annual event this was my first visit. This is a selection from the photo's taken on the day showing the locomotives on display plus some of the other rolling stock that was in the yard. Grateful thanks to the Keef's for organising the day.

 | | Beamish - horse waggonway
Although not currently operational the Beamish Museum have constructed a replica of the typical C18 wooden railled waggonway and horse gin (Colliery winding gear). Although waggonway development occured first in the midlands the first waggonway in the North East was an early one built in 1608. Development was extensive with the heyday of the horse operated, wooden railled waggonway occuring during the eighteenth century. Horse and steam waggonways overlapped but steam ultimately prevailed.
This compliments their operational Pockerley steam waggonway which covers the early nineteenth century period. The stone building in the background to some of the images in this set is the steam shed. Whether or not this was an intentional aim it does mean the currently dead state of the waggonway (As at my visit in Sep 2009) suggests abandonment due to the coming of the steam era!!

 | | Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway (5 Aug 09)
Clleethorpes has the last working steam miniature railway on the English east coast, the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway.
My only visit to date was this damp day in August 2009, lots of lovely steamy atmospherics. Recommended place to visit. (NB - I have no connection with CCLR, this is inedependant review)

 | | Evesham Vale Light Railway (Various visits)
Visits to EVLR in 2006 and 2008

 | | Lakeside Eastleigh
A collection covering this excellent railway at Eastleigh in Hampshire. For modellers of the miniature railway scene Lakeside provides some inspirational settings. However it is only fair to point out the day I went was a visiting engines day and therefore there was more active operational interest than on a normal running day.
Dual gauge - 10.25 and 7.5 inches.
Posted pictures cover stock and setting to provide ideas for a small roundy roundy layout to run N or OO locomotives but with a difference.

 | | LNWR Pet in NRM (modelling detail)
The 18 inch gauge LNWR Crewe Works shunting engine "Pet" is preserved in the National Railway Museum, York.
This is a series of photos taken to assist an overseas based railway modeller unable to get to York and posted here to assist all modellers.

 | | Sand Hutton coach
This is a build sequence blog for a model railway coach I built in 2007. Scale 1:24 | Gauge OO (model) | Prototype 15" gauge.
It was the Mark 1 build and it will be replaced in due course with a Mark 2 version as several lessons were learnt.
|
 | | Seaton Trams
At this point the album contains one image only. Album is work in progresss and more images will be added in due course.
The Seaton Tramway (2ft 9") is a recommended place to visit for tram enthusiasts and bird watchers. If you are visiting the south coast this summer on holiday and staying between Exeter and Poole check out the X53 bus (Exeter - Weymouth - Poole) which passes the site.

 | | South Coast Steam Ltd, Portland, Dorset
Shots taken in 2003 and 2007 of South Coast Steam Ltd's yard on the Island of Portland, Dorset. A rare standard gauge prototype for a self contained model railway micro-layout which is also adaptable to other gauges.
NB All photographs were taken from external viewpoints, the site is NOT open access.
